WHA Announces Completion of A.J. Gallagher’s Rolling Meadows Headquarters

Headquarters Transformation

Wright Heerema Architects served as Architects and Interior Designers for the new Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. headquarters at 2850 W. Golf Rd. in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. Arthur J. Gallagher is one of the largest insurance brokerages in the country and now one of Rolling Meadows’ largest employers. The headquarters transformation included a move from the company’s previous Itasca location back to this building, where the firm was based until 1991. It afforded the client an opportunity to have large floorplates and the ability to incorporate community-based amenities.

To make the return possible, the Design and Construction team renovated nearly every aspect of the 11-story, 315,000-square-foot Rolling Meadows building and its grounds, including its original 1976 exterior. Leopardo Companies, Inc. acted as the general contractor. Two, 750 space parking structures were constructed by W.E. O’Neil to minimize the footprint of surface parking. Additional modernizations include all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and elevator systems.

The basis of design was employee-centered and meant to accommodate its employees’ work style. It includes an open two-story lobby with a front desk concierge, 80 conference rooms of various sizes, open plan work stations throughout the office floors, and a room on each floor that includes either a treadmill desk or bike desk. With a south-facing panoramic view of the Busse Woods Preserve, the Board Room is located on the 10th floor and is the centerpiece of the executive level.

Employee-Inspired Amenities

A.J. Gallagher places a high value on employee work/life balance, and that is evident in the design of their new amenity spaces. The interior renovation includes a vital communal space on the first floor called The Commons, which serves as a gathering area that encourages cross-group collaboration. The Commons features seating areas, formal and informal meeting spaces, a tech bar, game room, and large dining area.

Additional amenities inspired by employee needs include a shared floor of conference rooms joined to The Commons by an open, monumental staircase, outdoor terraces, state-of-the-art audiovisual systems and Wi-Fi access throughout the entire campus. The headquarters also features a full-service cafeteria with organic, artisanal food, and a fitness club that offers complimentary fitness classes before, during and after work hours.
